Ever wonder how much those shingles, tiles or ‘stuff on your roof’ weighs?  Well here are some common roof systems and their weights.  You should always consider, not just the cost, but the system on your roof.  Is your structure strong enough?  Does my contractor know how many systems are there or what works best together?  We can help you weigh the answers to those and other questions about your roof.

  • Aluminum – 40 to 60 lbs.
  • Steel – 80 to 150 lbs.
  • Composition Shingles – 240 to 400 lbs.
  • Wood Shake Shingles – 300 to 400 lbs. (more when wet)
  • Tile – 900 to 1,200 lbs.
  • Slate – 700 to 800 lbs.
  • TPO, 60-mil + 4.5″ Polyisocyanurate Insulation – .71 lbs.
  • TPO, 60-mil MEMBRANE ONLY – .29 lbs.
  • 1.0″ Polyisocyanurate Insulation – .11 lbs.
  • PVC, 60-mil ONLY – .29 lbs.
  • Modified Bitumen 2-ply – 2 lbs.
  • EPDM, 60-mil MEMBRANE ONLY – .45 lbs.
